“I don’t feel like a drain. I feel like I’m able to contribute to the fullest ability that I can,” says Kieran, staff member in Winnipeg during CBC Manitoba’s coverage of the Grand Opening last week. If you’ve ever wondered why we do this work, that’s why!

The Raw Carrot officially launched in Manitoba on Thursday, our first expansion beyond Ontario. In partnership with Hope Centre Ministries, we’ve created a commercial kitchen specifically designed to accommodate the needs of people living with disabilities and mental illness.

Our team works part-time preparing soups, granola, and pancake batter.

Mike, who lives with a learning disability, described his experience this way: “You don’t face barriers. You feel more comfortable and in your comfort zone.”

One parent shared that she’s been worried for 20 years about what the future would look like for her daughter. She called The Raw Carrot “beyond our wildest hopes and dreams.”

That’s the transformation that happens when we redesign workplaces to be truly inclusive. When we stop asking people to fit into existing systems and start building systems that work for everyone.

Our products will be available at The Forks in Winnipeg. But the real product here is opportunity. Dignity. Belonging. And offering people a handUP in life!
