In true mom form, I spoke to Melanie as she was busy with her daughter that was home sick from school that day. This is a working mother of three wonderful children (Caleb, 12, Jocelyn, 10, and Alexandra, 5) managing the tricky juggling act of family life and work.
What takes one thing off her mile-long to-do list? The Raw Carrot soups!
The Raw Carrot Soup is the perfect school lunch. Melanie can simply pack it in her children’s’ thermos’, and they are all set with a warm, healthy, homemade lunch that she can feel good about feeding to her children. It’s the kind of lunch that’s nutritious and a great way to support a small local business that employs people living with disabilities.
Melanie learned about The Raw Carrot and their good work through Becky, her sister in law who is one of the company’s founders. Melanie was able to witness firsthand the organization grow and thrive. Learning about the business was just another reason why Melanie felt good about stocking her freezer and giving it to her family.
When I asked Melanie why she is a regular customer of the product despite the soup being more expensive than its grocery story counterparts, her answer was simple- it’s because of the cause behind it. This is more than just a soup, “it’s helping people and it’s a healthier option. It’s homemade and I like to support small local community.” She says.
When I asked Melanie what she likes about The Raw Carrot initiative and how she feels that it’s supporting local communities she told me about her experience attending the High Tea, one of The Raw Carrot’s fundraising events. It was at that event she was able to hear stories from some of their employees and the meaningful difference this job is making in their lives: “Each of us can make a small decision to show support and it’s important for kids to see.” Melanie says
While mom is a big fan of The Raw Carrot’s Veggie Mania, her kids hands down favourite is the Flying Noodle. So whether your looking for a wholesome, great quality, and nutritious lunch option for your kids or are looking to support local programs that do so much good, The Raw Carrot has all of the boxes checked!
